Tumbled Stones - polychrome jasper
Adam Rittenhouse of our staff tumbled a couple pounds of this Polychrome Jasper tumbling rough. A selection of his tumbled stones are shown in the photo above. Look how Adam's careful work changed the rough (similar to what you see in the top photo) into the nicely shaped, highly polished stones in the bottom photo. We don't sell a product and call it "tumbling rough" unless we can make nice tumbled stones from it and give you detailed instructions that will enable you to be successful.

What is Polychrome Jasper?

Polychrome Jasper receives its name from its colorful appearance. The name "polychrome" means "many colors". You can see in the photos above that earthy hues of red, brown, yellow, gray, and cream are dominant in this material. Rock from this mine is also sold as Desert Jasper because the rock matches the hues of the desert landscape where it is found.

The Polychrome Jasper being sold here is from the original and best-known source -- mines in Madagascar, the large island off the southeastern coast of Africa. Colorful jaspers are found in many parts of the world, and some retailers have used the word "polychrome" to market rocks from other sources.
