Large-Size Tumbling Rough
1.5" (38 mm) to 3" (76 mm)
If you like large tumbled stones here is a great mix for you. Nearly all of the rocks in this mix are between 1 1/2" (38 mm) and 3" (76 mm) in diameter and they have a nice diversity of colors, patterns and materials. You might find agates, jaspers, petrified wood, small nodules, some cuts from slab and trim saws. The image above shows a grab sample from the mix. Who knows what you will find?
Every bag of this mix is different, so if you reorder or purchase two bags you might find entirely different materials. This large mixed rough range from 1 1/2" (38 mm) to 3" (76 mm) in diameter. Photographed wet to show full color. (We are not selling this in one pound bags because in a one pound bag you will not receive a nice mix of color, patterns and materials.)
Some tips on tumbling large rocks in small tumblers...
Tumbling larger rocks like these is possible if you place them in a barrel with a nice amount of smaller materials. Tumbling large rocks works best with large-capacity tumblers such as the Lortone QT6, QT66 or QT12 and the Tumbler's A-R6 or A-R12. In these larger tumblers you can place a few 2" - 3" rocks in the barrel. If you have one of the smaller tumblers such as the Lortone 3A or 33B or the Thumler's A-R1 or A-R2 then you should place just one or two large rocks in the barrel.
If you want nicely-rounded large tumbles, expect to run them more than one week in the coarse grit. When we tumble large rocks we don't hesitate to hold them over for two or more weeks in coarse grit. |
