Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral that usually occurs in a pink color but rarely occurs in a brown, orange or gray color. The name is from the Greek word "rhodos" which means "rosy" in reference to the mineral's typical pink color. Pink rhodonite is commonly associated with black manganese oxide minerals to form a pink and black rock with interesting patterns.

Rhodonite has a specific gravity of 3.5 to 3.8 which gives it a slightly heavy feel when compared with most other rocks. It has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 which makes it a relatively soft material for jewelry and ornamental use.

The tumble-polished rhodonite for sale here has a bright "raspberry" color and is associated with black streaks and patches of manganese oxides. It has a bright vitreous to sugary luster and a very bright polish. It is sold in 4 ounce (113 gram), 8 ounce (226 gram) and one pound (453 gram) bags.
