Treasure Bags! Velour pouches for storing
stones or giving them as gifts.
The bright blue color of Lapis Lazuli has made it one of the most popular semiprecious stones of all time. It has been treasured and traded by people since Biblical times. The name of this gemstone comes from two Latin words: "lapis" is the Latin word for "stone" and "lazuli" is derived from the Latin word for "blue". The blue stone!

Our lapis lazuli gemstones are beautifully polished and with strong blue color. They contain some calcite veining and a few gold pyrite reflections. You can purchase them in 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound and one pound bags. The picture above shows the contents representative of a 1/4 pound bag. Your stones will be similar in size, shape and color to the stones pictured above. They are perfect for a variety of jewelry and craft projects - or simply to admire.

Lapis lazuli is a rock composed of lazurite, sodalite, calcite and hauyne, often with a few or abundant inclusions of gold pyrite. It is mined in significant amounts in a small number of countries including: Afghanistan, Chile and Russia. The mines in Afghanistan have produced lapis lazuli for over 6,000 years.

The blue stone has many uses. Lapis lazuli beads are extremely popular and cabochons of the stone are used in rings, pendants, earrings and pins. Small pieces are often cut and used in assumbled stone jewelry. Larger pieces of rough are often used for small sculptures and for carvings.

Warning: Polished stones can be a choking hazard for small children.
