The bright blue color of Lapis Lazuli has made it one of the most popular
semiprecious stones of all time. It has been treasured and traded by people since
Biblical times. The name of this gemstone comes from two Latin words: "lapis" is
the Latin word for "stone" and "lazuli" is derived from the Latin word for "blue".

Our Lapis Lazuli gemstones are beautifully polished and have a strong blue color.
Some stones might contain some white veins of calcite or a few gold-color reflections from pyrite crystals. You can purchase
them in 4 ounce (113 gram), 8 ounce (226 gram) and one pound (453 gram) bags. Your stones will be similar in size,
shape and color to the stones pictured above. They are perfect for a variety of
jewelry and craft projects - or simply to admire.
More information about Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is a rock composed of the minerals lazurite, sodalite, calcite and hauyne, occasionally with some gold-color inclusions of pyrite. It is mined in significant amounts in a small number
of countries including: Afghanistan, Chile and Russia. Some of the mines in Afghanistan have
produced Lapis Lazuli for over 6,000 years.
This popular blue stone has many uses. Lapis Lazuli beads are extremely popular and cabochons
of the stone are used in rings, pendants, earrings and pins. Small pieces of Lapis Lazuli are often cut
and used in assembled stone jewelry. Larger pieces of rough are often used for small
sculptures and for carvings.
