Aventurine is a form of translucent quartz that contains inclusions of platy
minerals such as muscovite mica, hematite or goethite. These inclusions
interact with light that enters the stone and gives the stone a glistening
appearance known as "aventurescence". Green is the most common color of
aventurine, however, orange, brown, yellow, grey and blue stones occur.
Aventurine is a very popular gemstone and is commonly tumbled or cut as
beads or cabochons. It is a favorite stone for semi-precious jewelry.
Aventurine is commonly used in necklaces, bracelents, pendants, earrings
and rings. Green aventurine is sometimes confused with jade but an
experienced person can use simple tests to distinguish them. Sources for
aventurine include: Austria, Germany, India, South Africa and the United
States.
Warning: Polished stones can be a choking hazard for small children. |
