Amethyst is a purple variety of crystalline quartz that can be transparent
through translucent. Amethyst is one of the world's most popular gemstones and
has been used as a gem for thousands of years.
Our tumble-polished Banded Amethyst gemstones are sold in 4 ounce (113 gram), 8 ounce (226 gram)
and one pound (453 gram) bags. It is a translucent purple material with bands of white and transparent quartz - sometimes
forming a "V" chevron pattern. Your stones will be similar in size, shape and color
to the stones pictured above. They are perfect for a variety of jewelry and
craft projects - or simply to admire.

Several countries are prolific sources of Amethyst. These include Brazil, Uruguay, Austria,
Russia, India, Canada, Zambia and numerous locations in the United States.
In some of these locations it is found as crystals lining cavities of
igneous rocks - these crystal-lined cavities are known as "geodes".
Amethyst has a wide range of use in jewelry. It is cut into both faceted and
cabochon shapes which are mounted in silver and gold jewelry settings.
Amethyst rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, beads and bracelets are all very popular.
