More information about Apache Tears:
Apache Tears are popular as gemstones. They are frequently made into pendants and earrings. Many are sold in the
rough or as brightly-polished tumbled stones.
The name "Apache Tears" is from a Native American legend of Arizona. During a battle between Apaches and the US
Cavalry in 1870 the outnumbered Apaches, facing defeat, rode their horses over a cliff rather than allow themselves
to be killed by their enemy. Their families cried with they received the sad news and their tears turned to stone
as they hit the ground.
Apache Tears are found at many locations around the world where geologically recent volcanic activity
from granitic magmas has occurred. At some locations the Apache Tears are found in perlite.
The most widely known localities for collecting Apache Tears are in Arizona.
